Vegan restaurants in Budapest

Since I am often in Budapest and vegan, I've tried out a lot of restaurants there. There are more and more vegan places and restaurants that provide delicious and nutritious vegan food. In this post I
would like to name different restaurants / cafes and basically create a vegan guide for Budapest.

Vegan Breakfast:

  • If you want to enjoy some fresh fruits, go to budapest centre market hall. You can buy there some juices and a lots of fruits and dates as well.
  • If you want to have brunch or eat vegan omelette or a raw oat granola with cashew cream and berry, visit Slowfoodiez. They also offer raw crackers with fresh vegetables and a green smoothie. (They also have a buddha bowl, raw rainbow wraps and a lots of cooked and raw dishes as well, they are not completely vegan and offer one or two vegetarian foods).
  • If you want to enjoy an avocado toast or an acai bowl or banana nice cream go to Szimply Food. They also offer some cold-pressed juices.

Vegan Lunch and Dinner:

  • Elixir is a magical place where they have 2 different dishes everyday and they actually don't use any oil except coconut oil which they use in moderation. So if you want to eat a nutritious, delicious and hclf meal, give this place a go.
  • Napfenyes Etterem is a fully vegan restaurant that offers pastries, pizzas, typical Hungarian food as well as raw foods, smoothies and juices.
  • Slowfoodiez is a vegan (vegetarian restaurant that offers one or two vegetarian meals) place where they not only serve breakfast but also lots of raw dishes, soup with bread, raw pancakes, raw veggie rainbow wraps, oatmeal, juices and more. Sounds heavenly, right?
  • Govinda is an Indian vegan and vegetarian restaurant that offers lots of Indian dishes and a salad bar.
  • Vega City offers daily menus, juices and salad. They use a lot of soy and tofu. If you don't have time to sit in restaurant and wait hours for your food to arrive, this place is a perfect choice.
  • 96 Zen is a vegan Asian influenced (fast food) restaurant. If you're in a rush, grab something there and you're good to go.
  • Kozmosz (OUR GOAL IS TO SPREAD THE VEGAN LIFESTYLE AND PROVE THAT VEGAN FOOD IS NOT ONLY DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY BUT ALSO DIVERSE, FILLING AND AFFORDABLE. ALL OF OUR MEALS ARE STRICTLY PLANT-BASED - THEY DO NOT CONTAIN ANY TRACES OF MEAT, DAIRY, EGGS OR HONEY.) How good does this sound, right? They offer pastas, burgers, salads, desserts, kombucha, teas, cafes and a lot more. Visit this place with your curious (non) vegan family members or friends and have a great time.

Hungarian vegan food:

If you want to try some typical (vegan) hungarian food, go to Napfenyes etterem. They offer dishes like Bean Goulash Soup, Stuffes Cabbage , Oat fritters with stuffed cabbage and potatoes and so much more. They have raw, gluten free options and a lot of vegan pizzas as well. They use lots of soy, tofu and seitan.

Vegan cakes and snacks:

  • Nyers vegan bisztro has the best raw cakes in town. (fig walnut crumble, lemon ginger avocado cake, coco berry cake and so much more)
  • Edes elet offers so many vegan cakes that it's hard to choose any.

Raw vegan:

  • Slowfoodiez offers raw salads, veggie wraps, raw crepes, juices, smoothies, desserts, raw maki. The rainbow veggie wrap is so delicious, it's honestly my favourite dish.
  • Napfenyes etterem offers raw zucchini noodles, a raw plate with veggie's, dips and crackers, raw smoothies, juices.
  • Nyers vegan bisztro is a cute little cafe / restaurant that offers raw dishes every day, smoothies and the most delicious raw cakes.
  • Central market hall is such a good destination to go since you can get so much fruit there. Seasonal fruits and veggie's are the one and o there. Involve yourself into a food culture full of dried dates, fresh dates, dried fruits, seeds, nuts, freshly pressed juices...and don't forget to negotiate =).

Vegan pizza:

  • Napfenyes etterem is the place to go if you want to eat a delicious vegan pizza. They have so many different pizza variations and you can create your own pizza as well.

Indian food (vegan options):

  • Curry House is a perfect place to go since they offer a wide range of vegan Indian food. They not only offer delicious Daals, but also really good bread and rice of course. Don't forget to mention that you're vegan and ask them to use coconut milk instead of milk.
  • Govinda is an Indian vegan and vegetarian restaurant that offers lots of Indian dishes and a salad bar.

Sushi (vegan options):

  • Tokio is a beautiful restaurant with a view on the river. It's pricy but the food is heavenly. They offer lots of maki, edamame and asian noodle and rice dishes as well (Oh and miso soup).
  • Wasabi is my favourite sushi destination. They not only offer regular Makis, but also ones with quinoa!!! Edamame is so good there but order more portions since they are way too small.
  • Imazs is very delicious as well but since I am obsessed with Edamame and they don't offer that, I don't go there often. But beside that, the food there is bomb.

Juice places:

  • Juicy  is not cheap but they offer the most nutritious juices and they all taste way too heavenly. They always have green kale spirulina ginger juices, beet juices, carrot lemon juices.. Beside that, they offer raw vegan bars, raw vegan energy balls and chia porridges..
  • There are more places that offer juices and smoothies but this one above is the best one, but you can get a smoothie in lots of supermarkets as well...

Vegan small supermarket to shop:
  • BIO ABC is a little supermarket / shop that offers grains, beans, soy, tofu, pastas, health foods, fruits, vegan pastry, snacks, veggie's, plant-based milks....

Vegan Ice-Cream:

My favourite Places:

  • Slowfoodiez because they have delicious raw options.
  • Wasabi for the best quinoa maki on earth.

I hope I could help you with this vegan guide for Budapest and if you try out any of these places, I would love to hear your opinions. If you have another recommendation, let me know as well. Thank you so much for reading this post and have a very nice day and eat good food. :)

xx Janka
